Proceeds from the auction will be used to upgrade classrooms and purchase educational materials for the various art courses taught at the art center.
“Last’s year’s auction was so enjoyable and successful that we decided to make this fundraiser an annual event, said Mary Rork-Watson, director of the Ankeny Art Center.
The funds raised last year were used to increase teacher salaries, purchase classroom supplies and make improvements in the pottery studio. The Art Center also used the funds to provide community outreach opportunities at a local nursing home and with Boy Scout troops, 4-H clubs and homeschool classes.
“We appreciate the community supporting our efforts to create a professional fine arts education resource at the Art Center,” Rork-Watson said. “What was exciting is that this fundraiser also allowed us to take art to community members who want to be creative outside a traditional setting such as daycare classes and senior citizens.”

The Auction begins at 6 pm and includes wine tasting, hors d’ oeuvres and a silent and live auction. A sneak peek of the auction items being offered this year include a cruise organized through New Horizons Travel, a quilt from Central Iowa Textile Artists, and an abstract painting from Nanci Griffin.

The Ankeny Art Center is a nonprofit visual arts center dedicated to promoting Iowa artists through exhibits, events, and education. The Art Center is located in a city park at SW Third and State Front Road. The gallery is open Tuesday, 9 am to 1 pm, Wednesday 9 am to 1 pm and Thursday 9 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm and Friday 9 am to 1 pm and Saturday 9 am to noon. The Art Center is closed Sunday and Monday.
