Winterset, Iowa – April 30, 2007 – Does your Little Angel have what it takes to become a calendar cutie? This weekend is your final chance to find out as shooting concludes for the 4th annual Little Angels calendar benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The photo sessions, offered May 4 & 5 at Lori Nordstrom Studio in Winterset, will be the last in the creation of the 2008 Little Angels calendar. For a $100 donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, you can have your own little angel photographed for the chance to be one of 12 central Iowa tykes to grace the pages of this year’s annual.

The calendar was the brainchild of Winterset photographer Lori Nordstrom. In 2003, Nordstrom and her staff were looking for a fundraising event that would incorporate her talent as a photographer and her love of photographing children.

“I had been wanting to work with a charity to do a fundraiser for some time,” said Nordstrom. “My office manager had had some experience with blood-related cancers and suggested the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They came in, educated us on the diseases, and their effect on children, in particular, and from that, we decided to do a calendar. It was that simple.”

Nordstrom estimates she photographs between 30 and 40 children each year for the pages of the calendar. Once shooting has ended, she chooses her favorite photo from each shoot, posts them to her website at www.nordstromphoto.com, and for $1 a vote (which also benefits LLS), the public can pick their own favorite with the top 12 vote getters slated for the calendar.

“We’ve had a wonderful response,” Nordstrom said. “Every year it gets a little bigger. We’ve even had moms who have brought their children back year after year to be photographed. It’s like a family thing now.”

In addition to the “little angels”, Nordstrom also photographs and profiles 12 area children with some form of a blood-related cancer. A different child is featured in the calendar from month-to-month.

Jenna Sager, senior campaign manager with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Iowa chapter, estimates the calendar has brought in over $25,000 since its first printing in 2004. She said it is grassroots ideas, like Nordstrom’s, that help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the fight against blood-related cancers.

“We are so thankful for people for like Lori, who give so much of their time and talents to the cause,” Sager said.

Calendars retail for $12.99 and can be purchased through the studio and select retailers in the Des Moines area including Dahl’s, Suite Dreams, Simply for Giggles, Taste of Italy, Diva, and on the Society website at www.lls.org/ia.littleangels. All proceeds from the sale of the calendars goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The last Little Angels photography sessions will be held on Friday & Saturday, May 4 & 5. Parents can make an appointment by calling the studio at (515) 462-9211. The session fee is waived in lieu of a $100 donation per child, to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
